Review of “The Girl’s Still Got It” by Liz Curtis Higgs

I love everything I have read by Liz Curtis Higgs, so when I saw this book, I knew I had to read it! In typical Liz fashion, she makes us laugh, cry and learn as we journey with Ruth, Naomi and Boaz. Liz really does her homework and shares with us the details of this wonderful biblical story of the lineage of Jesus, and the process of redemption for Ruth and for each of us. Join Liz as she teaches the reader the meaning and significance of words like “hesed”, and “shubh”, and “yad-yhwh” as well as the tremendous significance of the “kinsman-redeemer”. The story of Ruth clearly demonstrates this quote by Linda Hollies, “When we are down to almost nothing, God is up to something bigger then we can ever imagine.”

To close the chapters, Liz has enlisted the help of real -life characters, who make the characters of our story relatable- where you may say, ” That sounds like me…that is just how I feel!”

One of my favorite parts of the book is when we first meet Boaz and the first words out his mouth are a blessing to those around him. Liz points out, “How would it change the trajectory of your day if someone you love and respect spoke such a blessing over you?” Through her in -depth research, her word studies, her real-life characters and her warm wit, she makes the story come alive for the reader and shows how it is relevant for us personally!

Ruth, Naomi, Liz and You and I…we’ve still got it…value, significance, worth…something meaningful to offer! We claim a special place in God’s Big Picture! Read this book and learn, laugh, cry and be encouraged!

I received this book free from Waterbrook Multnomah for this review!
